Indians should strengthen their bowling attack
Indians again proved that they deserve to be in the number one in test rankings. But if we introspect on how it has retained it, the major credit only goes to the batsmen, who always taken the pressure and performed exceedingly well in testing conditions in Sri Lanka.
After losing against host Sri Lanka in the first test with poor bowling performance, Indians had their grip in the test series only by their batsmen. Sachin Tendulkar scored a mammoth double hundred and debutant Suresh Raina too had a fantastic century thus had a dream debut. By these batting prowesses, Indians drew the second test and entered the third test with some kind of optimism.
The batsmen always had to compensate for their bowling disabilities. Even in third test when Indians needed 250 plus runs, classy VVS Laxman came with the steady yet effective, which helped India to level the series. He was well supported by Sachin Tendulkar and Suresh Raina.
However, India cannot rest in laurels since their old weak-link still persisting. Yes! Indians still wanted in their bowling department and even experienced spinner Harbhajan Singh did not perform to the potential. Retirement of Anil Kumble and absence of ace pace bowler Zaheer Khan was really affected Indians. Pragyan Ojha, bowled well fall short when it comes to arm ball. He should have more deliveries in his armory. Amit Mihra, never flight the ball, which is the important ingredient of the leg spinner.
Pacers Ishant Sharma and Abhimanyu Mithun looked very mediocre. Ishant Sharma sprayed too much of short deliveries and Abhimanyu Mithun did not have pace to trouble the Sri Lankan batsmen. Indian selectors and bowling coach should seriously think about injecting some venom in to the bowling or this Indian team cannot survive long in the top in any format.
